New Ming
About This Spot
Stepping into New Ming, situated quietly on Washington Street in Boston’s dynamic neighborhood, feels like uncovering a humble yet bustling treasure trove for those seeking flavors from across Asia. There’s a gentle rhythm here—shoppers moving thoughtfully between aisles, carts balancing fresh produce and packaged goods, and the subtle hum of conversations blending with the occasional call from staff offering assistance.
The atmosphere leans into practical warmth, where the space feels lived-in rather than polished. It’s a spot where the pace is unhurried, inviting you to explore the variety of fresh vegetables, fragrant spices, and the carefully curated seafood selection that reflects the rhythms of market life more than a glossy supermarket presentation. The layout, though at times a bit eclectic, encourages discovery—small corners reveal familiar treasures alongside more unexpected finds that hint at home-cooked meals and shared tables.
New Ming carries a quiet sincerity that extends into how the staff engage with customers, often helping with specific requests, especially in the fresh fish and meat section. This human touch makes the shopping experience feel personalized and genuine, like receiving a friendly nod in a neighborhood you’re glad to revisit. Weekend visitors might appreciate the ease of nearby parking, a simple gesture that helps anchor this market as a welcoming hub amid the city’s bustle.
While it might not boast the sleekness of larger chains, New Ming’s charm lies in its accessible pricing and the steady pulse of daily life it nurtures. This is a place to slow down for a moment, to gather ingredients that fuel the kind of meals made with care, stories, and the quiet joy of home.

Lots of options throughout the store. Competitive pricing too. Seafood and veggie selections are great. Got a nice piece of flounder and a variety of soup dumplings to taste test.

You can buy most of Chinese vegetables and foods there. Their seafood is very fresh for most of time. Only thing need to know is not buying any fruits when they advertise “ sweetest”. 极甜, those are very sour, or tart fruit hard to sell. I was fooled by that multiple times.

New management is defiantly better, floor clean and shelf well organized. Fresh fish and meat section clean and process on customer's requests. Some improvements needed, the plastic bag holders are mounted awkwardly. Checkouts are slow and unpredictable, for some and most fresh produces are not bar-coded.

Always find good Asian groceries for reasonable price. Weekends they have free parking on the lot next to the building.

This supermarket is ok. It is not particularly dirty among Asian supermarkets although cannot be compared to Hmart. The product display is a bit messy with things here and there but prices are better than in H Mart. There’s a small parking lot across the street for shoppers. Again, this Asian supermarket is okay.

The right place to buy fresh sea fish, fresh fruits and vegetables in great prices, for Boston. You can take your fish clean without extra cost. You also have the opportunity to experiment with the great and mostly unknown variety of the Asian food products. The only downside is the difficulty in communication.
